Improving the Interface Design of a Fitness Tracking App
Pear Sports partnered with our digital agency for UX/UI expertise as they integrated Apple’s Health into their iOS fitness app. The goal was to identify users’ pain points, streamline user flows, and improve UI—all in time for the v1.9 release.
UI Design for iOS
User Flow Design
Wireframes and Clickable Prototype Design
I had the opportunity to update UI design and visual hierarchy for all of the app’s screens. I completed these designs through a cycle of sketching, brainstorming with the client, designing prototypes, and collecting user feedback.
I also had the opportunity to update onboarding flow designs. And, to meet our client’s objective, I designed informational screens that seamlessly fit into the overall user flow to explain how to connect to Apple Health.
This release was well-received by the Pear Sports team and their users. The app had a 4.7 star rating on the Apple App Store at the time of release.
In the future, I will ask for usage data before and after a project release. Some collected data would have informed my design decisions and helped with determining priority for ongoing improvements.
This was my first time working with iOS developers and I enjoyed brainstorming with them—their team had so many great ideas!
I was new to app design, so it was helpful to learn from mentors in the community. I joined local UX Meetup groups and learned about how to design for iOS.
